Home » Cherry Tree Class’s Grape Theme
As the Cherry Tree Class, we spent two full and enjoyable weeks with the Grape Theme. We started our theme work by creating a mind map in which we determined what we knew and wondered about grapes. Then we examined our theme poster, planned what we wanted to learn throughout this adventure and prepared our concept map.
We examined every aspect of the grape in detail, from the ripening process on the branch to the various recipes in the kitchen. While reinforcing our knowledge with our theme book, we had the opportunity to observe the different states of grapes with molecular grape experiments. These experiments were both fun and developed our children’s scientific thinking skills.
Our art and culinary activities were also an integral part of our grape theme. Our children made grape-themed paintings with their own hands and tried various recipes together. We visited the grape vines in our school garden and had the chance to see ripe and raw grapes up close.
In addition, our visit to the neighborhood market was an experience that enriched our knowledge about grapes. We observed many products such as fresh grapes, raisins, pickled leaves and grape vinegar. This activity allowed us to discover different uses of grapes outside the kitchen.
